Dorm Goals? A (mostly) Complete Guide to Moving in For the Fall

With less than a month left until move-in this Fall, I figured it’s time yet again to talk about something that I’ve been procrastinating! That’s right, making sure everything is set for moving into the dorm this fall! I think back to months ago when I filled out my housing application, and one daunting thought pops into my head. Oh boy… I’m about to be matched up with someone that I’ll be living in VERY close proximity to for the next semester. As the initial wave of panic and stress passes and my heartrate slows to a pace where I can no longer compare it to a snare drum, I receive one of the famous senses of relief that I feel when I realize that Rutgers is MUCH smarter than I am.

Remembering the application, I think back to the tedious section where I had to meticulously go through a list of preferences and questions that took what felt like forever and I sigh at the moments of my life that melted away. Then the inevitable light bulb glows brilliantly above my head when I realize that the many MANY minutes I spent agonizing over those TENS of questions was not in vain! I can now sleep easy knowing that those questions turned into a formula of what kind of roommate I am and told Rutgers exactly who to plop in beside me for the next semester. Having that ironed out in my mind, I’m finally able to look at the next source of stress! The fact that the only dorm supplies I currently own are the ones I’ve been lucky enough to have lying around my house already! Go me! (Oh boy…) So I figured for the rest of this post, I might as well compile a list of things I already have for college as well as things I still need, while tossing in a quick suggestion here and there when I come across them! My plan with this list is to compile it using various Rutgers websites and pages and source them below for further research!
