Fat Sandwich Review

Are you hungry, or RU Hungry?

The RU Hungry truck

Rutgers is full of many surprises given its size. One of those that I’m going to talk to you about is the RU Hungry truck, home of the Fat Sandwich. It is located on College Ave right next to the Alexander Library and is open every day. I always pass by this truck on my way to Expos and have always wanted to try this out for lunch one day. Normally, I try to eat as healthy as I can, but today I couldn’t resist! Besides, I would have done this at some point to check it off my RUcketlist.

Fat Sandwiches are not your ordinary sandwich. The things you see on the menu that come with your sandwich, are in the sandwich! For instance, today I decided to have a Fat Darrell (which is one of their most popular choices available.) Inside the bread are french fries, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and marinara sauce. Now if that didn’t cause you to salivate, perhaps all the other choices will. If you’re really watching your diet, RU Hungry also serves other things like fat salads, veggie sandwiches, and even Halal. There are so many different things to choose from. They even deliver if you don’t feel like going there yourself.

A preview of the Fat Darrell

The service is great! Ordering was easy and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. They also provide plenty of napkins to wipe yourself of this mess. As for my Fat Darrell, I definitely enjoyed it! Everything is wrapped inside the sandwich well and there was actually very little mess involved. Eat it slooowly, though. It will feel fattening afterward, so make sure you’re eating it with an empty stomach. There is a Fat Sandwich Challenge, where participants try to eat a fat sandwich within 5 minutes. I ate mine in 15 minutes, and that already felt quick to me, so good luck!

Overall, I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. The food and service were great with little to no hassle involved. If you want a nice change of pace from all the dining halls, this is a place you should definitely try out, on an empty stomach of course! I only recommend eating here once in a while so you don’t fatten yourselves. There are plenty of better choices out there, but it doesn’t hurt to reward yourself once in a while, right? Every Rutgers students should try RU Hungry. You won’t regret it! ★★★★★
