Small Town Girl Takes on B1G Time Football

Hey, Scarlet Knights! It’s officially been over one week here at Rutgers. My experience has been amazing so far and I can honestly say that each day gets better.

The highlight of the week was most definitely the football game on Saturday. As a freshman, I wasn’t sure what to expect out of a Rutgers game. I did know, however, that it had to be much more exciting than my high school days of cheering on my suburban town’s subpar football team.

My day started by getting breakfast on the always exciting and busy College Ave. I sat outside of Au Bon Pain watching hundreds of enthusiastic Rutgers students, covered in Rutgers spirit gear, walk towards the buses to finally get to High Point Solutions Stadium on Busch campus.

Upon arriving on Busch campus, the spirit of the students walking around the block party and the tailgates was nothing less than impressive. And I can’t forgot to mention the wonderful RUPA giving out free Rutgers bandanas! I knew that I came to this school for a reason.

As the game finally started, Rutgers experienced a bit of a plot twist as we were down 14-0 in the first quarter to Howard. But fear not, Rutgers eventually came back to get the 52-14 win; a much better result than the ugly Rutgers vs. Washington game.

Considering that the Rutgers vs. Howard game was only the first home game of the season and of my Rutgers career, I can confidently say that the best is yet to come. Here’s to many more spirit chants and screaming our lungs out at games ~
